The philosophy driving Artman Country Smokehouse is simple yet profound: respect the meat, honor the smoke, and serve it with pride. This dedication translates into barbecue that is tender, richly flavored, and cooked low and slow over carefully selected woods. Whether you are a local resident familiar with the area's charm or a traveler passing through Marion County, stopping here is an essential part of the regional culinary journey. It’s a taste that speaks of time-honored techniques passed down through generations, adapted slightly for the modern palate while never losing its rustic soul.
Key Highlights of the Artman Experience
Artman Country Smokehouse distinguishes itself in the competitive world of barbecue through several core strengths that resonate deeply with patrons:
The Slow-Smoking Tradition: At the core of their offering is an unwavering commitment to the slow-and-low cooking method. Meats are seasoned meticulously and then allowed to smoke for many hours, ensuring maximum tenderness and the deep penetration of wood smoke flavor. This patient approach is non-negotiable and forms the foundation of their renowned taste profile.
Focus on Quality Ingredients: The management prioritizes selecting high-quality cuts of meat. Recognizing that superior raw materials are crucial for superior barbecue, they ensure that only the best products make it into their smokers. This commitment elevates the final dish beyond standard fare.
Authentic Country Atmosphere: The setting itself contributes significantly to the dining experience. Located off Highway 42, the Smokehouse offers a relaxed, welcoming environment reminiscent of traditional Southern gatherings. It’s a place designed for lingering, sharing stories, and enjoying hearty, honest food without pretense.
Handcrafted Sauces and Sides: Complementing the expertly smoked meats is a selection of house-made accompaniments. These sides and sauces are crafted in-house, reflecting the same dedication to freshness and traditional preparation found in their main courses, providing the perfect balance to the rich, smoky proteins.
These elements combine to create a dining destination that consistently satisfies the craving for genuine, high-quality barbecue. It is a testament to the idea that sometimes, the simplest methods, executed perfectly, yield the most memorable results.

This is the best barbecue joint in the area. Their meats are awesome; portions are generous; and the price is very reasonable. My wife thinks their corn casserole is the best. I can't remember a better banana pudding. The only explanation … More

Our Server Dan was very friendly and pretty on top of things. Our next time in we will skip the burnt end's, Mac & Cheese and Fried pickles. They were less than mediocre. The bacon wrapped meatballs tossed in a mustard sauce were good, and definitely order the broccoli rice casserole! More

I've been wanting to stop in for a year as I consult with a farm in that area. I have always been on a time crunch, but not today.
Plenty of parking that was super clean. Door was hard to open and I did not expect a sit down type restaurant where the waitress very cheerfully greeted me as she served people sitting at a table. I could feel myself relax in this very homey environment. I was doing take out and they had a menu right at the register. They explained that everything on the menu was made on the premises. They take credit and the tap/insert was handy to pay with a screen on the register to add a tip and choose type of receipt. Seating to wait was comfy, but internet signal was limited (no biggie). The wait was short and I was heading back out the door with the waitress once again calling out a goodbye.
I made it to my destination. I had a half slab of ribs, coleslaw, potato salad with a side of fried pickles. It also came with a side of corn bread or toast (I chose corn bread).
To say the portions are generous is an understatement. There was a sweet molasses sauce and a not hot mustard based sauce for the ribs, and ranch for the pickles. The pickles, while not still super crispy (it took more than an hour to get home), were delicious! The coleslaw and potato salad were good. The ribs were out of this world, copious meat falling off the bone, to die for. Both sauces were perfect to dip pieces of meat into. Yes, I double dipped! 😊 There was plenty for 2 to share or for a full meal the next day, including the pickles (there a HUGE basket of'em)!
I will be back for sure!
Oh, and for sit down dining, they serve some decent beers too.
Came back and STILL AWESOME!

Came here recently with some friends for dinner. From the outside, this looks like a smaller restaurant. But when we went inside there was plenty of room with at least 15 tables for guests to sit and eat. This was my first time here so we ordered a sampler platter that had three kinds of meats and four sides. I also ordered a few appetizers to get so that I could taste as many different things as possible. The meats had a good flavor and were tender and delicious. The sides were exceptionally delicious. The portion size was very generous, and we had enough to take home for another meal later. I live over half an hour away, but our experience was so good. I will be coming back again.

We have been here multiple times, most recently this past weekend and everything is always so delicious. Their staff is really friendly and the restaurant has the cutest lil country town vibe. Their fried green tomatoes are amazing, their banana pudding is to die for and their brisket is the best. More

10/01/2025 Our first time dining here and everything was fantastic! The inside dining area is clean with a cute country bbq atmosphere. The bathrooms are clean. There is a nice outdoor seating area that is dog friendly. Selena waited on us and she is the sweetest women! She definitely made us feel welcomed and like we were regulars. She offered great food suggestions like the Moink, that my husband said was pretty good and that he would get again. The brisket was tender, juicy, smokey and flavorful! The temperature of the meat could have been warmer but was still delicious! All the sides we ordered were piping hot and very good. The corn casserole could be eaten as a dessert because it is sweet. The green beans had kielbasa in them that gave great flavor.

When you think of classic country Road eatery and smokehouse, this is it. Small restaurant and very inviting. Acknowledge your presence. The brisket has a perfect smoke ring, properly develop bark. A very juicy and tender brisket. Some of the best brisket I have had and definitely worth the trip. The brisket burnt ends are a mix bag. The burn ends are deep-fried to give it some crispness and I think mine were just a little over fried, without the sauce you can really taste the frying oil. When you add the sauce that it comes with, the oils taste is not as pronounced and better balanced. I will definitely come back for the brisket.

THE best brisket and sides I've found here in Central Florida with generous portions and copious iced tea. This is my go-to when we need Texas style brisket, which is so tasty I don't use any barbecue sauce in order to fully savor the smoky meat flavors.
They have other selections as well, but the brisket is what we come for, all the way from Lecanto to Summerfield.
As of this writing a brisket plate with two generous sides with cornbread or Texas toast is less than $20, and you get more for your money than other establishments I've eaten at.
This is my top recommendation for barbecue in this area, and to get the same, or better I'd have to go back home to the Texas Hill Country, but Artman's is quite a bit closer.
Sunday hours are a bit shorter, so arrive early so you don't get disappointed if they run out of one of your new favorite dishes.

Artman’s catered our wedding on 10/25 and it was by far the best food we could’ve ever received. Not only did we love it, but so did everyone else at the wedding. Everything was cooked to perfection and the little potato salad for my hubby only was a nice surprise since we hadn’t ever tried it before then. 🤭 Valerie was amazing and we appreciated her being the one to coordinate everything for us and have the best wedding day ever!

We visited Artman Barbecue on Saturday December 6, 2025 for lunch. The beef brisket lunch was tasty, unfortunately the rest of the visit was disappointing. The dining room was so cold we had to wear our jackets. After lunch we ordered the peach cobbler which was described as homemade. The waitress said it was
kept it in the refrigerator so they would warm it. We wanted coffee but was told
they were out of it! When she brought the cobbler out it had been all chopped up and had uneven cold spots
apparently microwaved! We had a couple of bites then left.
I would not recommend this restaurant.

I had Artmans cater my wedding for around 100 guests, and everything was outstanding! The food was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully displayed. The entire team was organized, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure the day ran smoothly. Our guests were so impressed we received endless compliments about the food. Highly recommend Artmans for weddings or large events!

Summerfield Jewel
Artman’s located in Summerfield is a little jewel tucked away on Hwy 42 in Summerfield. They have limited table inside the building but they also have tables outside the building. I first tasted their food when our friends invited us over to their house. They served brisket and smoked chicken. It was delicious. So, we decided to go there not long after we tasted the food from our friends’ house. Our first experience at Artman’s was great that we decided to return and bring some friends with us.
The restaurant opened at 11:00am and we arrived a couple of minutes before they opened to make sure we were able to get a table. Understandably, the restaurant gets full very quickly because their food was that good. When the doors opened, our server told us to sit where we wanted. The restaurant was very clean inside which was the first thing I noticed. Even the bathroom was clean. I came craving ribs and that was exactly what I ordered. I ordered a half a slab of St. Louis ribs. The server said, “let me check to make sure we have ribs.” He asked the gentleman behind the counter, and was told that they only had 4 ribs left. They had not received their delivery yet. I was fine with that. For my side, I ordered coleslaw and French fries. Ordering the ribs was not a mistake. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. They have four different kinds of bbq sauce on the table. I didn’t use any. I thought the ribs were perfect just the way they were. My spouse ordered burnt ends and he loved it.
As I said, Artman’s is a Summerfield jewel. Go and try it. You won’t regret it. However, I do suggest getting there early so that you don’t have a long wait.
